Best Ways to Improve Yourself Constantly
This post is about the best ways to improve yourself constantly daily!
To consistently improve yourself daily there are 7 things you need to know.
Self-improvement and personal development are hot topics in the world right now, and if you are one of those amazing people who want to make it into the top 1% of society stick please around and learn these important methods.
Some of the most successful and smartest people on the planet are always improving themselves.
Even if they achieve the most unbelievable things, they never stop and keep on going.
As Wayne Gretzky said, “you miss 100% of all the shots you don’t take!”
So, are you ready to find out the best ways to improve yourself constantly?
Here are the best 7 ways to improve yourself daily:
#1 – Embrace Failure
We live in a social media age where we believe everybody is happy and successful all the time.
Let me get real with you for a second:
Social media is a lie, and nobody posts their failures.
People put on a façade of wanting to look like they are happy, and everything is in fact going well in their lives.
When the reality is, they may be struggling but you would never know as it does not look that way online or in person.
If you want to improve yourself constantly you need to know how to take a loss.
I had a friend who played it safe his whole life, and he never took a risk on anything.
Then one unfortunate day life just happened to him, he got fired from his job for no reason, his girlfriend left him, and his car got stolen.
He was so terrified of failure that when life happened to him and he experienced what it was like to fail, or for things to go wrong, he had no idea how to handle it!
You on the other hand, you can learn to embrace failure.
Learn to understand life is all about ups and downs, and good times will come, and bad times do not last forever.
Dr Jordan Peterson always preached “life is suffering, pull yourself together and be a better person so you can embrace the difficulty.”
Improving yourself is improving your flaws, and one of those flaws maybe you are afraid to fail.
Whereas if you bravely instead face failure head on, you are pretty much prepared for anything, because you are NOT afraid to lose.
And those who are not afraid to lose, are not afraid of anything!
#2 – Never Stop Learning
I recently discovered that in his time at the White House former United States President Barack Obama was an avid learner and reader.
To quote “I would not have survived two terms in the White House if it was not for the books I read!”
So, if the President has time to read and learn so do you.
The most arrogant and laziest people believe they know it all.
Whereas the tremendously successful and smartest people pick up a book and research all the time.
By never stopping learning you are constantly adding more skills, more knowledge, and more understanding to your life.
You will be able to cope with difficult situations, or better yet you will know how to solve problems when others do not know the answer.
Just because you finished school or college (or maybe you left), does not mean the learning stops.
Keep learning every single day!
#3 – Start a New Hobby
When I was a teenager, I wanted to learn to play guitar because I loved the instrument, but mainly to impress girls.
I remember for 5 years I practiced constantly, and I was terrible.
And then as I kept improving one fateful night in my early twenties, I had met the most beautiful woman who had a guitar in her house, and she asked me “do you play?”
I smiled and picked up the guitar and serenaded her a few songs.
It was a very wonderful and proud moment that I have had a few times in my life I am delighted to say!
But nobody was not there when I was getting it wrong, and hurting my fingers, and being tone deaf!
By starting a new hobby, you are constantly learning a skill you do not know yet, and you need to master.
Over time you will gradually get better if you practice every day.
I strongly recommend learning an instrument, because creating music is one of the most rewarding things, I have done in my life aside from my work.
But it can be learning how to draw or paint.
Learning a new language.
Learning to ride a rollerblade.
The keyword there is “learning!”
Yes, by learning like reading, you are challenging your brain to learn something that it doesn’t know yet, but over time it will actually master.
#4 – Do Something Different
I am a creature of habit, which means I like to follow the same routine, and I can eat the same meal almost daily for the rest of my life.
But if you are like that, you need to improve yourself daily by doing something different.
Doing something different will adapt you and your brain to start thinking a bit sharper because it is going into unexpected territory.
Here is a classic story about this very subject by Portia Nelson split into different days, which goes like this:
“I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost… I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault. It takes forever to find a way out.”
“I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don’t see it. I fall in again. I can’t believe I am in the same place. But, it isn’t my fault. It still takes me a long time to get out.”
“I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in. It’s a habit. My eyes are open. I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately.”
“I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.”
“I walk down another street.”
Learn from this story, do something different daily, even if you are not “falling down a hole.”
Go down another street.
#5 – Wake Up Early
If you constantly wake up late you feel groggy tired, and dull.
But if you wake up earlier, ESPECIALLY if you do not want to, you will already set the mood for the rest of your day.
Think about it, if you wake up early and hit the snooze, that is the first thing you did, you woke up to go BACK to sleep.
However, if you woke up and you got up STRAIGHT out of bed, brushed your teeth, or washed and went off to the gym or work, think about how much BETTER that is for your improvement!
So, get up early, and when I say get up, I mean GET UP!
#6 – Question Everything
Are you a person who is easy going and goes with the flow?
Whilst that is an extremely attractive quality, when it comes to improvement it can be a bit of a stumbling block.
Because if you are always just taking people’s words for things, or just accepting things the way they are where is your development?
The Wright Brothers were told there was no way humans can fly, yet they invented the plane!
Henry Ford was told horse and carts can never be beaten, yet he invented the Ford motorcar!
Elon Musk was told there is no market for an electric car, yet he invented the Tesla!
I am not telling you to become a genius inventor, but don’t take everything as gospel and instead question EVERYTHING!
By doing this you will find smarter, easier, and better ways to solve problems and improve your life overall.
#7 – Compare Yourself to Who You Were Yesterday
You have got to improve!
Yes, get yourself together!
But comparing yourself to your neighbour, your friends, etc is not the right way to improve.
Your life isn’t like somebody else’s, no matter what you see or hear from other people.
Your best comparison is to who you were yesterday, because you have more in common with yourself than anyone else!
It is the perfect comparison.
Therefore, if you say to yourself “I can be slightly better, or slightly less terrible then who I was yesterday,” is the greatest way of improving.
So, if you smoked, drank, gambled, lied, cheated, procrastinated yesterday, try NOT do any of those things today!
And see if you can keep topping it every day, keep making small minor improvements, tiny goals along the way.
And if you are gracious and disciplined enough to keep doing that and the other 6 ways to improve yourself constantly you are going to be amazed and astonished by the person you end up becoming.
Make the sacrifices today so you can bargain with the future, for your benefit and for a far more fulfilling and successful life.
